Olivia and Spencer met on a summer night in July 2021 while out with mutual friends in Louisville. Spencer was a settled Cincinnati local, happily rooted in his city, while Olivia was just about to set sail on a lifelong dream of travel nursing. Their first impressions of each other were friendly and fun, but with Olivia about to leave town, neither thought much more of it.

“It would never work.”

Shortly after meeting, Olivia took an assignment in Charleston, SC, and quickly fell in love with life on the road. She soon transitioned to another assignment in Nashville, TN, while Spencer stayed in Cincinnati, building his early career.

Fast forward to August 2022 — Spencer moved out of his rental in Cincinnati and into a friend’s place in Louisville while house-hunting back in Ohio. At the very same time, Olivia accepted a travel contract in Indianapolis, which allowed her to keep Louisville as her home base.

That fall, they reconnected through mutual friends — but this time, they went on their first official date. The spark was undeniable, but once again, timing seemed to be working against them. Olivia was set to leave in January 2023 for a travel nursing assignment in Long Beach, California. Spencer, now settling into his new Cincinnati home, wasn’t ready to see her go across the country.

Despite the distance, their connection deepened. Evenings were spent on FaceTime — Spencer unpacking boxes while Olivia watched the sun set over the Pacific. Olivia was hesitant to commit, unsure how long she’d be in California, but they kept talking, sharing dreams, and finding more reasons to stay in each other’s lives.

In October 2023, Spencer flew to California to visit. By then, he knew she was the one — though Olivia still needed a little convincing. They spent a long weekend exploring small coffee shops, beachside cafés, and the beautiful Southern California coast.

A few weeks later, Olivia returned home for the holidays, and they finally made their relationship official. They were thrilled, but realistic — long distance still wasn’t over. Olivia moved back to Louisville in February 2024, bringing them much closer, though still in different cities. They spent the year swapping weekends back and forth between Cincinnati and Louisville, with I-71 quickly becoming their second home.

Spencer always knew where this was headed. In early 2025, after a year of Olivia being back in town, he bought the ring!

In May 2025, under the guise of a “birthday dinner” for Olivia’s 30th, Spencer took her to La Bodeguita, a beloved Louisville staple. After a delicious meal, they walked across the street to the rooftop of Hotel Genevieve for drinks. With the city skyline around them, an “undercover photographer” nearby, and the rooftop bustling with people, Spencer told Olivia how much he loved her, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him.

The surprises weren’t over. When they went to “share the news” with Olivia’s neighbor (and cousin), she walked into a surprise engagement party that Spencer had been planning for six months — complete with her best friends flown in from across the country. They spent the rest of the night laughing, hugging, and toasting with their closest friends and family.

Now, Olivia and Spencer can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter surrounded by the people they love most. Cheers to love, laughter, and the soon-to-be Clowerys!
